Your True Identity in Christ

Too often we do not walk consistently with the Lord because we do not understand who we are in Him. Not unlike Neo in The Matrix who ran from the agents until he began to believe that he was the one, we do not stand up to the temptations that meet us each day because we do not really believe we are righteous, saints, loved by God. We still think of ourselves in our pre-conversion state, aka the flesh.

It is important to know who you are in Christ. The following list is from the study guide for the The Life with Dr. Bill and Anabel Gillham. The subtitle of the course is How to Let Christ Live His Life In and Through You.

This is an partial list of who we are in Jesus Christ.

All quotes are from the New King James Version.

Romans 3:24
You are now justified and redeemed
... being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ...

Romans 6:7
Free from sin's power
For he who has died has been freed from sin.

Romans 8:1
Indemnified (God does not reject you, just your sinful performance)
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Romans 15:7
Accepted in Him
Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 1:30-31
Have wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption
But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God - and righteousness and sanctification and redemption - that, as it is written, 'He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.'

1 Corinthians 2:16
The Mind of Christ is in you
For 'Who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?' But we have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthains 6:11
Washed, sanctified, justified
And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

On with the Holy Spirit
But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

1 Corinthians 15:22
Alive (formerly dead)
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.

Always led by His triumph (whether it appears so or not)

2 Corinthians 3:2-3
His laws are written on your heart
You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on the tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.

2 Corinthians 3:12-14
You hardened mind is removed (mind transplant)
Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech - unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament because the veil is taken away by Christ

2 Corinthians 5:17
A now creation (not an old garment with a new patch)
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things are become new.

2 Corinthians 5:21
The righteousness of God (cannot get more righteous)
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Galatians 2:3-5
Have liberty (not a peaceful feeling, but a knowledge)
Yet not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised. And this occurred because of false brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage), to whom we did not yield submission even for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue in you.

Galatians 3:29
All are one (no inferiority)
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus

Son/Daughter and heir of God
Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Ephesians 1:13-14
Sealed in the Spirit
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory

... and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, ...

Brought near to God
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

A member of His body (not inferior)

His peace guards your heart and mind (not a peaceful feeling, but a knowledge)
